Hartman Home
Before joining the Ohio Teaching-Family Association in 2002, Fred and Sherri Hartman had been Family Teachers at Girls and Boys Town in Omaha, Nebraska for 15 years. The Hartman Group Home is situated in Springfield Township in a large home on a quiet cul-de-sac. Fred and Sherri trained their daughter Amy, son Jason and his wife Holly to work with the boys placed in the Hartman Group Home. Amy has a degree in Elementary education and has worked for the Hartman Group Home since 2002. Jason started working for his parents in 2003 and Holly has been working with the family since marrying Jason in 2007. Sherri trained the new generation of leaders well prior to retiring. She now enjoys being a support to her adult children and grandchildren.
The Hartman Group Home staff are trained in professional techniques to provide compassionate and quality care to youth. The staff have each been trained in therapeutic practices for Trauma Intensive Care. They teach social skills, independent living skills, provide academic supports and facilitate relationship building with the youth’s family and friends.
The Hartman Group home is located close to schools, jobs, services, and the YMCA. The Hartman’s and the boys in their home enjoy participating in outdoor activities including picnics, hiking, fishing, kayaking, swimming, and bike riding. The boys are given opportunities to participate in community functions, church, and extra-curricular activities and sports. The boys also enjoy playing board games and video games. Amy and Holly have continued Sherri’s traditions in celebrating birthdays and holidays. They have created a comfortable environment for the youth in their home.
